Pokémon Pokopia passes five million sales after its March launch

Pokémon Pokopia has now sold more than five million copies worldwide, according to The Pokémon Company and Nintendo. Physical and digital sales are included in a total that gives Pokémon's unusual cosy sandbox experiment a substantial early audience.

Five million players is a considerable audience for a Pokémon game that largely leaves Poké Balls and traditional battling behind. The Pokémon Company announced the milestone on August 14, a little over four months after Pokopia launched worldwide for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5.

Nintendo supplied the sales data, with both packaged and downloadable copies included. Pokopia is also identified by The Pokémon Company as Pokémon's first Switch 2-exclusive game.

Sales continued beyond the initial launch window

Nintendo's June 30 financial data placed Pokémon Pokopia at 3.68 million units. The newly announced five-million figure covers a different reporting window, so the two numbers should not be treated as precise daily checkpoints. They do show that the game retained meaningful momentum beyond March.

For another sense of scale, Nintendo had sold 23.68 million Switch 2 systems worldwide by June 30. Five million copies would be equivalent to roughly one game for every five systems in that installed base, although the mismatched reporting dates mean that is a contextual comparison rather than a formal attach rate.

A very different kind of Pokémon success

Pokopia asks players to rebuild an abandoned world as Ditto rather than train a conventional competitive team. Resources become tools and furniture, Pokémon teach useful moves, and carefully constructed habitats determine which species move into a settlement.

The Pokémon Company calls it the franchise's first cosy sandbox title. The project was planned and co-developed by The Pokémon Company, Game Freak and Koei Tecmo Games.

The expansion cycle has already started

The sales announcement follows closely behind Bubbly Basin, the first paid Expansion Pass release. Launched in early August, it adds an underwater town, extra Pokémon, new furniture and buoyant building blocks.

A free Version 2.0 update launched alongside it and introduced Dive for eligible players whether or not they own the Expansion Pass. That makes underwater exploration and construction part of the broader game's feature set rather than an entirely paywalled mechanic.

Part 2 is scheduled for winter 2026 with accessories, additional Pokémon and furniture. Part 3 follows in 2027 and is currently promised to add another town.
